What is a Cherished Transfer?
A Cherished Transfer enables an assigned registration number to be moved directly from one vehicle to another. Only the registered keeper of a vehicle is entitled to apply to transfer its number. Owners must complete a v317 Transfer Application enclosed with a fee of £80
If the vehicle which is receiving the number in a cherished transfer is already registered, its existing number will become void unless an application to transfer or retain that number is made at the same time.
What is a Retention certificate?
A V778 or V750 Retention document enables owners to keep a registration on a certificate and not on a vehicle. The number is held for a 10 year period and there is no yearly fee. Only the registered keeper of a vehicle is entitled to apply for a right of retention. Owners must complete a v317 Transfer Application enclosed with a fee of £80
The V778 or V750 retention certificate records details of the registration number, the grantee (owner) and nominee details if added on the certificate.
Only the registered keeper is entitled to apply for further retention or transfer of the number.
